Although turning 24 years old isn’t a milestone birthday, I truly have so much to celebrate. No matter how old you are your birthday will always be something to celebrate, because you’re blessed to see another year.
As I look back on all the things that happened over the last year, I can’t believe how much I’ve changed. Twenty-three was filled with opportunity, lessons, heartbreak, joy, and new friendships. Despite the end of my 23rd year ending in a pandemic that cause the entire world to go into quarantine, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I’m thankful for my friends, family, mentors, dog, and so much more. Here are a couple of things I’m looking forward to as I turn 24 years old.
Turning 24 years old isn’t the most exciting thing, but I am looking forward to growing as a person. I have learned that in order to become a better person not just for the people I love, but also for myself, it is important to continue to grow. I find it important that as I grow I have to let go of grudges (I used to hold the biggest grudges against anyone); listen to others; forgive (even if no one has apologized); be honest with myself; and most of all let people/things go.
As I turn 24 years old, I hope to also learn how to take better care of myself, and to be more supportive to the people who love and appreciate me.
If you know me then you know how much trouble I have with telling people “no.” While I love helping people, I had to quickly learn that I’m not good for anyone if I’m not taking care of myself. I have learned more and more that making myself a priority isn’t selfish, it’s actually the best way to become the best me. After neglecting self-care so much to the point that I was constantly tired, stressed, and unhappy, I finally realized it was time to take care of myself. As I turn 24 years old, I look forward to doing more of the things I love like DIY projects, trying new foods, calligraphy, reading for fun, and exploring the world more.
It’s crazy to think how the people around you have grown with you and as you guys are entering the next chapter of your lives. Whether that be getting married, creating a family, creating a business, or working hard for that dream career you all dreamt of when you were in undergrad. So many of my friends are 24 years old or older, so it is fun to see how the life we hypothesized about is coming together.
I look forward to saving more money so that I can begin to create a future for myself after law school. As I get older, I realize that the phrase “there’s no time like the present” has never been more true. I think about how I’m turning 24 years old and in two years I’ll be 26, and graduating law school. With aging comes an increase in the importance of the decisions I make and how they will ultimately impact my life long term.
Welp, I would like to travel more when I’m 24 years old, especially since I didn’t get to do much this last year. Unfortunately, we’re in the middle of a pandemic so who knows how this will go. Regardless of how the next year will pan out, I am looking forward to traveling more in Year 24. Whether that be taking day trips or getting an AirBnb and exploring local towns, I’m excited to see what happens.
As you can imagine, law school is extremely hard and requires your full attention as well as a balanced lifestyle. I learned in my first year that positive relationships are the key in getting through rough times. I’ve met a lot of great people over the last year, who have helped me both with my professional and personal life. Meaningful relationships are great, because they push you to go out of your comfort zone, and become the best version of yourself. I hope to continue to create more meaningful relationships as I turn 24 years old.
Although I will be turning 24 years old in the middle of a pandemic and social distancing. I have learned how to embrace change including some new ways on how to celebrate a quarantine birthday.
